Who we are
Bossy Music Pty Ltd trading as Departy ("Departy", "we", "us") operates joindeparty.com and the Departy web application. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it and how we handle it.
If you have questions about this policy, email us at hello@joindeparty.com.
What we collect
We collect the following personal information:
- Name and email address (when you create an account or take the quiz)
- Age range and postcode/zipcode (from the quiz)
- End-of-life planning information you enter into the app (funeral wishes, document details, medical preferences, legacy plans and related content)
- Payment information (processed by our payment provider — we don't store your card details)
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Provide and improve the Departy service
- Store and deliver your end-of-life plan (including generating your PDF)
- Send you transactional emails (account confirmation, PDF delivery, password resets)
- Send you marketing emails if you've opted in (welcome sequence, product updates, newsletters)
- Understand how people use Departy so we can make it better
Aggregated data and insights
We may use anonymised, aggregated data to produce statistical insights — for example, trends in funeral preferences by age group or region. This data cannot be used to identify any individual. We may publish these insights on our website, in marketing materials or share them with partners such as funeral homes and estate planning professionals.
Service provider partnerships
In the future, we may partner with funeral homes, estate lawyers, insurers or other relevant service providers. If we do, we will only share your personal information with a partner if you have explicitly opted in to being contacted. This will always be a clear, separate choice — never pre-selected, never buried in the fine print. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Third-party services
We use the following services to operate Departy. Each has its own privacy policy, and your data is processed in accordance with their terms:
- Supabase — database hosting, user authentication and data storage (your plan data is stored here)
- Resend — transactional email delivery (PDF delivery, account emails)
- MailerLite — email marketing (welcome sequence, newsletters — only if you've opted in)
- Tally — quiz form hosting and response collection
Some of these services store data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. By using Departy, you consent to your information being transferred and stored in these locations.
Where your data is stored
Data collected as part of the Departy Starter Kit — your planning answers, profile information and account details — is stored in Supabase on Australian servers (ap-southeast-2, Sydney) in compliance with the Australian Privacy Act. Some third-party services we use (email delivery, marketing) may process data outside Australia, as noted in the third-party services section above.
Sensitive information
Your end-of-life planning data is personal and sensitive. We treat it accordingly:
- Your plan data is stored securely in Supabase with encryption at rest and in transit
- Only you can access your plan through your authenticated account
- We don't read, analyse or share the content of your plans
- If you choose to share your plan (via PDF), that's your decision — we don't share it on your behalf
We do not sell your individual personal information to third parties. This applies to all Departy products, current and future.
Marketing emails
When you take the quiz or create an account, you're consenting to receive marketing emails from us about Departy — founder updates, product news and content we think you'll find useful. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can opt out at any time.
Transactional emails (account confirmation, PDF delivery, password resets) are not affected by unsubscribing from marketing. We need to send these to operate the service.
We won't share your email with third parties for their marketing purposes.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and maintain your session. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal information. These include:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correction — ask us to correct information that's wrong or incomplete
- Deletion — ask us to delete your account and personal information
- Portability — request your data in a portable format (your PDF already does this)
- Objection — object to us processing your data for marketing purposes
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@joindeparty.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
For users in the European Union
If you're in the EU, your data is protected under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our lawful bases for processing your data are: consent (marketing emails, quiz participation), contract (providing the service you've signed up for) and legitimate interest (improving Departy). You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing or contacting us.
For users in Australia
We handle your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you believe we've breached an APP, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Future products and features
Departy may introduce additional products or service tiers in the future (such as Departy Keeper), which may involve additional data collection or storage — for example, document uploads or photo storage. If we introduce features that require expanded data use, we'll update this policy and notify you. You'll need to consent to any expanded data collection before opting into new features. Using the Starter Kit does not opt you into future products or their data requirements.
Data retention
We keep your account and plan data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we'll delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we're required by law to keep it.
Marketing email data is retained until you unsubscribe, at which point your email is removed from our marketing lists.
If Departy ceases to operate
If Departy stops operating for any reason, we'll give you at least 90 days notice by email. During that period, you'll be able to export your data (via PDF download) or request deletion of your account and all associated information. We won't transfer your data to a third party without following the process described in the business transfer section above.
Children
Departy is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Business transfer
If Departy is acquired, merges with another company, or sells all or part of its assets, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. If this happens, we'll notify you by email or by a prominent notice on our website before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy. The acquiring party will be required to honour the commitments made in this policy, including that your individual data will not be sold to third parties.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email or by posting a notice on the website. The "last updated" date at the top of this page tells you when it was last revised.
